Skin Care Routine

I always get asked what my beauty routine is so I decided I will share that as blog post. Please note that I am a minimalist and I avoid using too many products in the first place.

Listed below are all the beauty products I use on my skin.

SUNSCREENS

                                                       300

Prior to December, 2017, I used to be one of those ignorant people that thought sunscreen was only for Caucasians. Then my cousin who is a Dermatologist educated me on its usefulness on all skin color and everything changed.

In 2011, I was diagnosed with Tinea Vesicular, it is a condition that discolors some areas of your skin due to exposure to the sun (it shows up more in the summer time). Every time I went to a Dermatologist, not one of the the 3 specialists I saw pointed out using sunscreen until my cousin did 6 months ago. Thanks Cuz. This information literally changed my life!

I never use anything more than a SPF 30 on my face. I did use SPF 60 on my face months ago but I didnt like how it felt on me. The feeling reminded me of what it feels like when you have too much makeup on your face and my eyes would burn like crazy when a little got into it.

After taking my bath in the morning, I apply some sunscreen on my face. Please note a little goes a long way. Then I apply my my preferred moisturizer on top of it. This simply serves as a barrier that protects my skin from the sun.

Please note that I treat sunscreen like makeup and for that reason, I always make a note to wash it off my face at night.

Lot-Of-2-Well-at-Walgreens-Kids

This sunscreen is what I apply on my back, arms and legs that will be exposed to the sun. It is for kids but I like the solution and it is easy to apply.

FACIAL WASH/CLEANERS

It is always recommended not to use your body wash on your face. For that reason is why I use this brand. I like that it is light, clear and easy to use. I place it in our shower caddy and pump it once for use. I start by wetting my face and lather this on. I use this in the morning and at night before bed.

MOISTURIZER

CeraVe-Moisturizing-Lotion

After washing my face in the morning and at bed time, I apply a pump of this moisturizer on my face. I like that it isn’t too heavy that you cannot apply it before bed.

Click here to purchase for $10.63 through Amazon.  This can also be purchased at your favorite Sam’s Club.

LIP MOISTURIZER

Finally, I like to apply the same brand ointment on my lips. This product is comparable to Aquafor but I like this brand better. For those of us that wear a lot of matte lipsticks which is the majority of the lipsticks I own, this product will be a lifesaver as a base before apply your preferred matte lipsticks. A little goes a long way and it keeps your lips very moist and comfortable throughout the day. Click here to purchase for $9.13 through Amazon.

There you have it. I like to invest in products that are affordable, effective and easy to use. These products do all that and more.

Do share your skincare routine, your must have skincare product and any other tips you may like to share.

Thanks for stopping by.

Xoxo,

Msddah

  1. This is a great post. It is interesting to see what skincare you use. SPF is super important so its wonderful you highlighted the need for it daily as a lot of people no not realise!

  2. I prefer using kids’ sunscreen, too. They’re a lot gentler on my skin compared to regular ‘adult’ sunscreen. 🙂

  3. I love that you shared what you use and like for your skin care routine. I don’t like to spend a ton of money on these types of products either, so it’s nice to be introduced to options that don’t cost a fortune. Thanks!

  4. Sunscreen important in our daily life beside the basic skincare routine. It keeps our skin from harmful UV rays. I choose non oily sunscreen.

  5. Thanks for sharing this information! I feel the same way re SPF. I don’t love the feeling of the SPF on my skin, so it’s always a constant struggle between enough protection and just generally hating that feel on my face.

  6. Honestly, I hate to say that I’ve never really thought about my skincare before. Why? I’m not sure, But i really need to start taking care of my skin. Thank you for telling us about your skin care routine! I definitely never would have thought about applying sunscreen.! Love this post!

  7. These products look fabulous, I hadn’t heard of CeraVe but it looks like something my skin would like. I really need to up my spf routine which is non existant really.. My skin has changed in the last year from super oily to super dry but I’ve been testing samples at work and after much trying I am now happy with Clarins Santal oil and daily cream.

  8. These products all sound absolutely fabulous! Thanks for sharing them because now I have new ones to try out I never heard of before!

  9. I really love how simple and minimalistic your skin care routine is. These products sound amazing and it seems like something that I can keep up with myself. I’ve never heard of a lip moisturizer before. I’ll be checking that out for sure my lips get super dry.

  10. I am a huge sunscreen user. I used to be a sun baby — spending the summers at the lake on the beach from birth to age 18. I baby oiled etc and tanned. Then I started to shun the sun as I saw how my brothers girlfriends skin was getting from tanning (naturally and unnaturally). When I got married I had my nails done and the light that you put your hand in triggered a major sun sensitivity — basically I am now allergic to the sun. If i am in it too long I get bumps and itch for days and often weeks.

  11. skin is not always easy to keep nice, smooth and how we like it. I am happy you shared these tips and products so that we now have more tools to take care of our skin

  12. I am so glad to come across your post today. My younger one is having a lot of skin issues. I am going to have her try Cerave,

  13. As with all other things, minimalism is as effective when it comes to skincare routine. It saves time, it doesn’t “overload” the skin with unnecessary products. The skin gets only what is needed and what is essential.

  14. I must confess most of my products are not SPF containing but I use plant based products only which is great

  15. I’m a minimalist too! I tend to use more natural products though as I like to avoid parabens and to keep it simple. I cleanse with just a Norwex body cloth I bought (no product) and then use my own homemade face oils made from argan oil, rose hip oil and a bit of Sacred Frankincense essential oil from Oman. In the summer I do buy an SPF product. Despite being a natural mama, I don’t trust DIY sunscreen products for the height of summer (I’m sure they’re fine in spring/autumn) because the ingredients aren’t tested for their efficacy, so I tend to use one of the natural brands of reef-safe/ocean-safe sunscreen that I feel good using on my 3 year old daughter too. We have Green People here in the UK but I want to try RAW Elements when I’m next in North America…its that one that Hawaiian Airlines is giving out to people when they fly to Hawaii. (BTW, I remember having so much fun going into Walgreens on US road trips back in the 90’s and early 00’s…buying Queen Helene Mint Julep facemask and all the fun products that seemed so exotic to us!)

  16. I need to make more of an effort to wear sunscreen. It’s easy done while on holiday as I burn so easily, but I forget that even living as far north as I do the sun rays are still harmful. My skin care routine involves washing with water and a flannel and a daily application of a moisturiser. Very simple.

  17. I use sunscreen daily before going out in sun. And do so on face and all exposed areas of skin. I took took my dermatologist advice seriously and made sunscreen a must to do routine. Though not used any from your mentioned brand but I will consider now after reading your experience on applying these.

  18. I’ve been finding some trustworthy products. Your suggestions really help me out a lot. Thanks for sharing!

  19. I haven’t heard of this brand before but I need to try CeraVe. The products sound very promising. I always gor high spf sunscreen, that’s the only part of routine I never ever change

  20. I am so glad you use sunscreen and shared it here. Skin cancer is such a real danger. I will have to check out those face washes, I need a new one. Thank you!

  21. Love this post! I’m not guilty of not applying sunscreen too often, unless I’m laying out in the sun. I use the same moisturizer for my face. It’s one of the few that don’t cause breakouts!

  22. Honestly I read more about skincare procedures and products more than the average person but I still fail to be consistent in using them. CeraVe here though, might change my habits.

  23. Thank you so much for sharing this! I always see people with extensive routines and all I can think is “I don’t have time for that.” But this is doable. I’ve been trying to get sunscreen on every day as well after my dad was diagnosed with melanoma last year.

    1. I feel the same way about extensive skincare routine; I simply find it daunting. Thanks for your feedback.

  24. You have gorg skin! I find I constantly have to switch up my skin care routine when the weather changes. Sunscreen is a must-have for me as well.

  25. I’ve never seen this brand, and I don’t think they are available in Singapore. It reminds me a little of another brand called Cetaphil~ You have really great skin though, unlike me!

  26. Thanks for sharing this! Sunscreen is a big must in our house during the summer, but I never considered the benefits of it for year round.

  27. This is so important to share because the sun is extremely dangerous on skin. I love and always put spf on. I even have it in most of my Makeup brands that I use. Thanks for sharing your story and bringing awareness.

  28. This is a fab product round -up. I always keep a handy set of face wipes in my bedside drawer for when I’m too lazy to wash my face.

  29. I love this post and will definitely mark it for later. Our family spends a huge amount of time outdoors – riding our horses and caring for them, camping, hiking, biking, swimming and more. We spend very little time indoors at this time of year and really need to care for our skin.

  30. I have used the Cerave face moisturizing cream for years now! I won’t use anything else on my face now. Definitely agree with using that brand for anything they offer.

  31. I’ve never heard of any of these products before. They all sound fab though. I may have to pick a couple up to try myself 🙂

  32. Sunscreen is sooooo important! I use it all year round. During the cold months (it’s really not sunny at all here in Switzerland) I use a 30 Spf protection but when the sunny days start I switch to SPF 50. I’ve been trying to perfect my skincare routine for many years now, and I’ve tried lots of things until I found what works well for me. One thing I am sure and I would suggest to you, is to apply first your moisturizer, and then your sunscreen. Why? because moisturizer have ingredients that are suppose to penetrate and nourish your skin, whereas sunscreen is just a “screen” or protection, so in my opinion it should be the last layer of your routine 🙂

  33. I’m so glad you said about SPf to legs – this areas is prone to cancers because it’s so often missed! X

  34. I’m not gonna lie I never added sunscreen to my skincare routine. I started reading so many articles and immediately realized how important it was to have in my skincare routine.

  35. Super simple, inexpensive, and straight to the point! Thanks for sharing your skincare routine with us!

  36. I like an easy and affordable skincare routine too. Great products don’t need to be expensive and sunscreen is important.

  37. Such a minimal routine, I love it! My routine is also quite similar to yours. Sunscreen is my holy grail product that I always use too.

  38. Always love new ideas for skin care – especially when it comes to sunscreen and such. Never new about the lip balm crossover – thanks!

  39. It’s so refreshing to see such a simple routine! Sometimes I see such overwhelming and expensive products. But this is so true, I really need sunscreen.

  40. Thanks for sharing about your skin care routine. I will share this with my daughter. I am with you when it comes to having SPF that high on your face. It feels strange and caked on.

  41. I wish I can remember the name of the scrub that my friend uses. I tried it at her house recently and it’s soooooo good girl!
